Activists Speaking out About Gun Violence Prevention
The purpose of the Brady Center's Hechinger Speakers Bureau (HSB) is to build a nationwide network of trained volunteers (concerned citizens, health care providers, health educators, clergy, activists, college students, etc.) to educate American communities about gun violence prevention. These diverse speakers seek and accept engagements to participate in forums addressing the issue of gun violence and gun violence prevention in their communities.
Since the HSB launch in 2002, we have over 100 speakers across the country trained to educate their communities about how to prevent and reduce gun-related injuries and deaths; In short, how to save lives!
Members receive all of the tools needed to provide presentations, are kept up-to-date on new statistics and information, and are assisted on an individual basis as part of our ongoing technical assistance. We also have created a forum for members only to access information and communicate with each other.
We recognize that the most effective change occurs locally, our goal is to use this effort, combined with the Center's online activism, to contribute to and help transform the fight to end gun violence into a major community-based movement.
We hope to launch a new web-based component where members can access and download presentations, supporting documentation, public speaking tools, and technical assistance. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Hechinger Speakers Bureau, we invite you to Join Us. You can also volunteer by writing to speakeasy@bradymail.org, or by calling 202-289-7319.
